Yangshuo Paper-weight
In the old days, the literate used to put beautiful bronze and jade pieces on their desk as decoration. Because of the weight, they began to use them to press the papers and books. This bronze and jade became one of the treasures of the study, this is the Chinese paper-weight.
As one of the ancient counties, Yangshuo is abundant in paper-weights. Most of them are made of marble, carved with kinds of sayings and auspicious characters, animals and flowers. They look very elegant and beautiful. Some of them are made of rosewood and ebony, with exquisite design and technique, these have become valued collector’s pieces and are popular with discerning visitors.
Most of the Yangshuo art or so-called antiques you find on Yangshuo West Street are reproductions but sold as “old” authentic pieces at high prices. There are several dealers who sell authentic art and antiques out of their homes.
